Make a Handmade Mother's Day Card

A handmade card is one of the most meaningful Mother's Day gifts kids can create.  Children can fold a piece of construction paper, decorate it with crayons, stickers, flowers, hearts, or drawings, and write a simple message inside.

The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love. Psalm 147:11

To fully understand the beauty in Psalm 147:11, let's look at verses 1-11.

Praise the Lord.

How good it is to sing praises to our God,
how pleasant and fitting to praise him!

The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars
and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit.
The Lord sustains the humble
but casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.

He covers the sky with clouds;
he supplies the earth with rain
and makes grass grow on the hills.
He provides food for the cattle
and for the young ravens when they call.

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
the Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 147:1-11 (NIV)

In Psalm 147:1, we see that it is good to praise God.  It is not only pleasant, but appropriate because of who He is, our sovereign Lord.

In Psalm 147:2-4, we see that God is the God of restoration.  He brought Israel out of their captivity.  We can apply this historical event to our own lives, knowing that when we mess up, maybe emotionally and spiritually held captive by a mess we've made, God doesn't leave us in our messes.  He is in the restoration business.  He heals our broken hearts and binds our wounds.  Just as God numbers the stars and knows them by name, we can rest assured that He knows each of us by name as well.  He knows everything about us, yet He still loves us so.

Verses 5 and 6 tell us that God is great and mighty.  His understanding is never-ending, with no limitations.  He sustains the humble and throws down the wicked.

Verses 7-9 speak of God's sovereignty over the sky, clouds, and rain.  God should be praised because of who He is.  After we realize all the wonders of the nature and character of God from all the previous verses, we should be in awe of the truth that even as great and sovereign as God is, He still cares about nourishing the animals.

In verses 10-11, we read that God is more concerned for spiritual matters than physical.  He is not impressed by muscular strength or any form of "human greatness."  However, God delights in those who fear Him and put their trust in His unfailing love. 

God is sovereign over all things.  He is great, all-powerful, all-knowing with understanding that has no limit.  He has the power to heal and restore the broken.  He has power over the sky, wind, and rain.  He numbers the stars and knows them by name.  YET, His concern is for you and for me.  Of all of His creation, He delights in you and in me when we place our complete trust in Him.  How beautiful is that?
