Scripture Passage:  Matthew 6:19-24

The following are my notes taken during my pastor's sermon.

Guard Your Heart from Greed and Worry

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;  for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.  But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Matthew 6:19-24
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
Proverbs 4:23

Points to Ponder
1.  Our treasure must be correct.

*Earthly treasure is never safe.  It has enemies:  rust, moths, thieves.
*Earthly treasure is not always bad.  it is not a sin to own things.  It is a sin when things own us.
*Earthly treasure is never permanent.

He said,“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 1:21

For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.
1 Timothy 6:7

*Earthly treasure is not to occupy our hearts.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:21

2.  Our vision must be clear.
3.  Our choices always affect the heart.
