How is Your Walk (From the Study on Galatians Series)

This summer, we are doing a summer series on the book of Galatians.  This week, our pastor preached on the topic question, "How is Your Walk?"  The following are my Bible study notes based on my pastor's sermon.

The Bible passage for this week is Galatians 5:16-26.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.  Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. - Galatians 5:16-26

How is Your Walk?

Are you being led by the flesh?  If we are being led by the flesh:

We will produce sinful attitudes and actions.  Freedom in Christ is not a license to sin.  Our works do not change the status of our walk, but they do reveal our status.

Are you being led by the Spirit?  When we are being led by the Spirit:

We will go where the Spirit guides us.
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. - Jim Elliot.
We will do what the Spirit leads us to do.

We need to be aware of false prophets and those who profess to be Christ followers but bear no spiritual fruit.
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.  You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?  So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  So then, you will know them by their fruits.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.  Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ - Matthew 7:15-23
We will know true believers by the fruit they bear.
