How to Break Free from a False Sense of Truth

Shop Digital Downloads

Continuing in our series on Galatians, our Bible study text this Sunday is from Galatians, chapter 3.  Our pastor's title for this lesson is "False Sense of Truth."
Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. - Galatians 3:15-16
How do you really earn favor with God?  How do you find favor with God that is not based on a false sense of truth founded on the binding chains of hopeless legalism?

How to Break Free from a False Sense of Truth

God's promise of the gospel is delivered by the Holy Spirit and received by faith, freeing us from the shackles of law, sin, and hopeless legalistic "religion."  We have been set free to live free.
This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? - Galatians 3:2
Now that no one is justified by the law before God is evident; for, “ The righteous man shall live by faith."  However, the law is not of faith; on the contrary, “He who practices them shall live by them." - Galatians 3:11-12

What I am saying is this: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.  For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise. - Galatians 3:15-18
Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God's promises and the law.  Jesus has set you free.  You were lost in the law but Jesus came to set you free.  The law was given so that we would see our need for a Savior.
Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. - Galatians 3:19
The world tries to shackle us in hopeless legalism.  If you really want to live free, you need bolt cutters.

The first handle = Spirit filled living.  Surrender your hearts and lives to Jesus.   Be in His Word every day.

The second handle = Standing on the promises.  Remember what God has already done for you.  Live by that.

Cut the chains that bind you.
We have a hope.  He is preparing a place for us.  Do you believe that?  Live it.
