Steps to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

Steps to Prepare Your Heart for Easter
Steps to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

Steps to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

As Easter approaches, many of us start to think about the traditions that make this season special. Beyond the colored eggs and bunnies, Easter is a holy time of spiritual reflection. Preparing our hearts for Easter involves more than egg hunts and celebrations; it’s a holy time to remember three things:  Jesus' suffering on the cross, Jesus' resurrection, and His ascension to Heaven.  It is through Jesus that we too can have eternal life.  As Resurrection Day approaches, here are several steps to prepare your heart for Easter.

Unplug and Reflect

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, especially during holiday preparations. Take some time to unplug from your devices and distractions. Find a quiet space where you can think about what Easter means. Reflect on your spiritual journey over the past year. Consider journaling your thoughts or meditating on Scriptures that inspire you. This quiet time will help you quiet your heart and mind so you can focus on the true meaning of Easter.

Embrace Sacrifice

Easter is rooted in Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, which is the reason we celebrate this holiday. As you prepare for Easter, consider what you might sacrifice in your own life. This could be something as simple as giving up a bad habit or committing to volunteering your time. Embracing sacrifice helps us step outside ourselves and think of the ways we can serve others, mirroring the selflessness that Easter represents.

Engage in Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool for preparing our hearts for any occasion, but it’s especially important as we approach Easter. Dedicate time each day leading up to Easter and every day of the year to prayer. If you don't know how to pray, prayer is simply a heartfelt conversation with God. Ask for guidance in your spiritual growth and the courage to embrace any changes you need to make in your life.

Study the Scriptures

Understanding the Biblical historical account of Easter will deepen your appreciation for the holiday. Set aside time to read passages related to Jesus’ journey leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection. Consider focusing on the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—as they provide different perspectives, and yet the same historical account of these crucial events. Reflect on the messages of hope, love, and redemption found in these stories. You may even want to join a Bible study group to discuss these themes with others, especially if you are new to understanding what Easter is all about.

Practice Forgiveness

As Easter symbolizes a new beginning, we need to let go of past grievances. Take time to reflect on any resentment or anger you may be holding onto. Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is liberating. By releasing these burdens, you are free to live peacefully.  Forgiveness allows you to let go of the clutter of past hurts and gives you room to heal.

Share Generosity

Easter is a time to practice generosity, both in spirit and action. Consider ways you can give back to your community, whether that’s volunteering at a local charity, donating to a cause, or simply reaching out to someone in need. Generosity keeps our hearts open and teaches us the importance of compassion, mirroring the love that was demonstrated through Jesus' life.

If you would like to go a little deeper into preparing your heart for Easter, I have a devotional journey for you.  Ressurection Day:  A 21-Day Devotional Journal.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith—an event that changed everything. It is a victory over sin and death, a promise of new life, and an invitation to walk in the fullness of God’s power.

Yet, too often, we approach Resurrection Day as just another holiday rather than a transformational truth that shapes how we live every day.

This 21-day devotional journal is designed to guide you through a journey of reflection, renewal, and spiritual growth as you prepare your heart for Resurrection Day.

Whether you are seeking a deeper understanding of Christ’s victory, longing for renewal in your spiritual walk, or simply desiring to draw closer to God, this devotional will help you experience the resurrection in a fresh and powerful way.

Each day includes:

A Scripture passage to meditate on
A short devotional thought to inspire and challenge you
Space for personal reflection—write down what God is speaking to you
A prayer prompt to help you respond in faith

As you move through these 21 days, you will explore the hope, joy, peace, and power found in Christ’s resurrection. You will be reminded of His deep love for you, the victory He has secured, and the abundant life He calls you to live.

Let’s walk together on this journey toward Resurrection Day, allowing the truth of Jesus’ triumph to transform our hearts and lives. Are you ready to experience the power of the resurrection in a deeper way? Let’s begin!

Be Strong and Courageous Poster for Kids, Joshua 1:9

Be Strong and Courageous Poster for Kids, Joshua 1:9
Be Strong and Courageous - Joshua 1:9 - Poster for Kids

I have a new item in the shop today! It's an adorable "Be Strong and Courageous" poster for kids. This adorable poster is based on the Bible verse, Joshua 1:9.  I only used the "Be strong and courageous" part for the kids poster, but the entire verse reads:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:9

Be Strong and Courageous Poster for Kids

The product in my Etsy listing is for an 8in.x10in. digital download.  People interested in the print can download the digital file to their electronic device.  Then, they can print it out using their own home printer.  The downloadable file contains 1 PNG file, 1 JPG File, and 1 PDF file.  They can add their own frame and they're all set.

This adorable poster features cute fun colors and a childlike font.  It works great in a child's bedroom, playroom, or a baby nursery.  Kids will grow up encouraged to be strong and courageous because the Bible tells them in Joshua 1:9 that God is with them wherever they go.  It is important for children to develop a trust in God and Scripture as soon as possible.  Hanging scripture in their bedrooms and play areas is a good way to start building that foundation for them.

This "Be Strong and Courageous" poster makes a great baby shower gift.  It would also look great on a college dorm wall to remind a college student away from home that they can accomplish their academic goals because they can be strong and courageous knowing that God is with them.  This might be especially comforting for a student who is away from his or her parents for the first time.

The soft colors make this print work well with Easter decor.  A Christian school teacher might like to have it for her classroom wall and it makes a good housewarming gift as well.

The "Be strong and courageous" Bible message works for many purposes so this digital download is versatile enough for multiple occasions.  We hope you'll love it.

Cute Easter Desserts and Treats

Cute Easter Desserts and Treats
Cute Easter Desserts and Treats

There aren't many things more beautiful than a family Easter table filled with homemade recipes and cute Easter desserts and treats.  Easter lunches and dinners bring back so many memories from my childhood.  After church, we would head to my grandmother's home where the table would be filled with home cooked foods and so many desserts and treats.  The kitchen table, living room, and den was packed with aunts, uncles, and cousins all enjoying special recipes while laughing at various stories told every year but always just as funny as the first time we heard them.  I can still hear the laughter.  There was always lots of laughter.  I miss those days.  My grandparents are all in Heaven now and I don't see my cousins, aunts, and uncles as often as I would like, but we can carry on some of our childhood traditions in our own homes as our own adult children and grandchildren gather around our own tables.  If you're wondering what to desserts and treats to prepare for your Easter table this year, I've compiled a list to get us started.

Cute Easter Desserts and Treats

I've seen different variations of dirt cakes in the past.  I've even made a few with flower pots for bowls and gummy worms for the "dirt" mix.  For your Easter table, try this Easter Dirt Cup variation of this cute yummy treat.  Instead of gummy worms, use little candy eggs and bunny Peeps.

These Pretzel Bunnies are the perfect sweet and salty treat.  They are made with pretzels and chocolate melts.  Get the full recipe and see how to make a few other animal treats over at The Monday Box.

Are you a cheese cake lover?  These mini cheesecakes are adorable.  The crust is a cookie, but the best part is that there is no baking required!

How about a bunny on a stick?  Pretzel Rods are cute, colorful, and another sweet and salty treat with salty pretzels and sweet marshmallow bunnies.

Remember those sugar wafer cookies?  Grab those, yellow candy melts, and candy eyeballs to make adorable little Easter chicks.  Get a full list of ingredients and instructions over at Persnickety Plates.

This Easter cookbook is available here.

Easter Candy Macadamia Bark not only tastes great, but it looks pretty too.  Break it up and serve it on a pretty plate or platter.  It will add colorful pastels to your table.  You'll find the recipe at Thrifty Jinxy.

These Easter Oreos are just the cutest things!  Little bunny faces and little chick faces are adorable.  Toss in a few Robin Eggs for the win.  Get all the info at Fantabulosity.

Oh how I love Carrot Cake.  These Easy Carrot Cake Truffles look so good.  I could probably eat the whole batch all by myself.  Find out how to make them at Semi Homemade Recipes.

Do you have little bird lovers in your life.  They'll love making Easter Bird's Nests Cookies - with your help, of course.  Take them over to Princess Pinky Girl so they can read all about them.  Then, enjoy family fun time in the kitchen while you make them.

Break out your Slow Cooker to make a pretty batch of Easter Crock Pot Candy.  You'll find the full recipe at Kitchen Fun with My Three Sons.

Turn large marshmallows into cute marshmallow chicks.  They are absolutely adorable!  Take a look at them over at Party Pinching.

Here's a spin on Rice Krispy Treats.  Shape them like carrots instead.  Get the details at My Heavenly Recipes.

You have to check out these Nutter Butter Easter Chicks.  They are so cute.  Get the instructions and a complete list of ingredients over at A Grande Life.

Here's one for coconut lovers like me.  Head over to Lord Byron's Kitchen and tell me how cute are these Easter Bunny Coconut Tails?  I'll bet they taste amazing too.

We've already mentioned Easter Dirt Cups at the beginning of this post, but here is a different spin on this delicious and cute desert.  This Easy Easter Dirt Cake is made with chocolate pudding.  It's served in a baking dish with "grass" on top.  Over at Mom Secrets, it's adorable with the pastel hearts on top of the "grass," but I think another cute idea would be to "plant" these chocolate carrots in the "dirt."

My First Christian Fiction Novel, Easter, and a Mother's Day Card Printable for Kids (Digital Download)

My First Christian Fiction Novel Coming Soon
Heartbeat:  My First Christian Fiction Novel Coming Soon

My First Christian Fiction Novel, Heartbeat, is Coming Soon!

Hello!  It has been a while since you last heard from me, but I have good reasons for my absence here on the blog.  First, I have a new granddaughter!  She's is the apple of my eye.  She smiles all the time.  She is such a joy and I'm loving my new position as Nonnie.  Secondly, I took time off the blog to do something I've wanted to do since high school.  I finally did something I've dreamed about for 32 years.  I wrote a novel.  My first Christian fiction novel will be released soon.  It's a novel about 4 women in 4 different circumstances.  3 women find themselves dealing with unplanned pregnancies while the 4th woman's life unexpectedly intertwines with the first three.  It's a novel about life, loss, love, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and healing.  I'll be sure to let you know when it becomes available.

You might not know about my first publication.  Back in 2016, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness called Crohn's Disease.  I was discouraged at first because Crohn's Disease is a tough disease to fight and manage.  My "pity party" as I like to call it didn't last long because I realized that though chronic illness is tough and it might steal my happiness for a time, it could never steal my joy.  My happiness is based on my circumstances, but my joy is based on my faith in God who is greater than my disease or any earthly affliction.  If you or someone you love suffers from a chronic illness, I hope my little 10 day devotional, When Chronic Illness Steals Your Joy, will help restore a joy that only seems lost.  You'll find it here

Celebrating Easter by Remembering Jesus' Suffering

Easter is just around the corner.  For me, Holy Week has always been somber.  The truth is I don't like to think about the betrayal of Jesus and His suffering.  I like to skip on to Sunday and focus on His resurrection.  When The Passion of the Christ was released, I watched it once in the theater, but I have not watched it since.  I couldn't get it out of my mind for months.  We purchased the movie but we have never even taken it out of its original packaging.  I don't like to focus on that part of the Easter story, but you know what?  We should read about it, watch it, and think about it.  Jesus suffered in our place so we should know all the horrors of His scourging and crucifixion.  It should make me as sick now as it did back then.  It should make us all sick.  It was His suffering that paid for our sin.  It was His suffering that gave us a way to eternal life in Heaven with Him.  Without the suffering, there would have been no death, no sacrifice, no resurrection.  Jesus did suffer.  He died in our place.  He rose again.  He is alive today and He offers the free gift of eternal life for those who believe in Him and repent of their sins.  If you would like to know more about the free gift of eternal life, you can learn more here.

If you've never watched The Passion of the Christ, you can watch it here via Prime Video or you can purchase the Blu-ray version below.

Celebrating Easter

As we move into Easter weekend, I hope you enjoy your families, but please take time to read about Jesus' suffering and death. Then, rejoice because He lives again!  I'll make it easy for you.  You can read the Easter story in Luke: 22-24 right here on BibleGateway.

Easter is coming! You can tell it’s closetulips are blooming and colorful, candy-filled Easter baskets now line the walls of our favorite supermarkets. It’s time to start thinking about Easter dresses and bonnets for the kids, preparing for community-wide egg hunts, and inviting loved ones to Easter dinner. When Jesus Said, "It is Finished," He Was Talking About You by Melody

Inspiration and Encouragement for Easter

When Jesus Said, "It is Finished," He Was Talking About You

There’s such gravity in that moment. Imagining the Son of God, our Savior, with His battered and broken body nailed to a cross, stirs up a sense of both sadness and shame. He endured such terrible things that even thinking about them leads me to close my eyes in sorrow. Most every time I heard or read the story, my focus was on what happened, the events themselves, and less so on those three simple words He spoke at the end: “It is finished.” What did Jesus mean when He said “it is finished?"  Continue reading . . .

Remembering Holy Week

And with those words…Holy Week began. As we begin our Holy Week celebration and head toward Easter Sunday, let’s remember the events leading to Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection and acknowledge their meaning. Reflect upon what happened on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before His crucifixion, when Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem with coats and branches laid at His feet and people praising Him. Those shouting Hosanna, or “save us,” were looking for an earthly warrior to rescue them from the harsh Roman rule.  Continue reading . . .

It can be hard to talk about the true meaning of Easter with some of our family members. We worry that we’ll say the wrong thing or just fumble over our words and not make any sense. What if we make them less interested in this holiday or confuse them or make it worse?

These are real and valid concerns, which thankfully can be a bit alleviated by a bit of practice, sensitivity and planning. Below are three ways to get the conversation about Easter started with your non-believing family members.  Continue reading . . .

“Yeah, mom,” he answers grinning. “Jesus comes back to life; so we have to go move all the chairs!"  Continue reading . . .

Learning Lessons on Faith:   God's Love is the Common Thread
In reflecting on all that my mom taught me about sewing, I can easily see that her method of teaching was used in every area of life. Each day she took small deposits of time and purposed them to teach a bigger lesson. The stitches of her faith were sewn into my heart as she shared Bible lessons through worship music and Bible verses. The Bible stories she read to me as a little one were pieced together into bigger examples of faith as I grew older. Her faith wasn’t just a tapestry she was weaving in her own heart; it was a legacy she was sharing with others.  Continue reading . . .

Explaining Easter to Kids (Without Scaring Them)

Easter is a unique holiday for Christians because it carries weight. We know that in order for the stone to be rolled away, Jesus had to first be crucified, tortured and left to die next to thieves. This is not an easy topic for adults to discuss, so how do we explain Easter to our kids without completely terrifying them? How do we describe the gravity of the holiday without horrifying them with the ugly, painful details of the suffering that Jesus endured? Or are we supposed to let them feel the pain and join them where they are?  Continue reading . . .

The Blood of Forgiveness and Cleansing

Jesus was crucified at the time of the Jewish Feast of Passover. This was not a coincidence. It was ordained of God. Jesus is called our Passover (1 Corinthians 5:7) and also the Lamb of God (John 1:29).

The first Passover took place more than 3,000 years ago. It happened on the night when God sent the tenth plague upon Egypt. This plague would bring death to the first born in the land. To escape this judgement, the Jewish people were to follow God’s specific instructions for deliverance.  Continue reading . . .
