How to Point People Back to the King When the World Is Distracted

Christmas is the most spiritually significant season of the year, not because of lights, gifts, or gatherings, but because the King entered His creation. Yet for many, the season becomes the most distracted time of the year.

This lesson equips believers to confidently share the Good News of the Kingdom of God and the birth of Jesus — with gentleness, clarity, and boldness — right in the middle of real-world holiday busyness.

Understanding the Message We Carry

The Kingdom, the King, and the Good News

Before we can share the message, we must deeply understand it.

1. The Kingdom of God is God’s rule breaking into the world.

• Jesus’ first message: “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” — Matthew 4:17 KJV
• The Kingdom is not merely heaven someday — it’s God’s reign coming near today.

2. Jesus is the promised King.

Christmas is not just the birth of a baby. It is the arrival of a King:

• “For unto you is born this day… a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” — Luke 2:11 KJV
• Christ = Messiah = Anointed King
• Lord = Master, Ruler

3. The Good News is that the King came to save, restore, and reign.

• “Behold, thy King cometh unto thee.” — Matthew 21:5 KJV
• “God sent his only begotten Son… that the world through him might be saved.” — John 3:16–17 KJV

At Christmas, we aren’t celebrating a moment. We’re celebrating an invasion of love, rescue, and redemption.

Why Christmas Is a Strategic Evangelism Moment

Hearts are open even when minds are distracted.

Even when people are thinking about shopping, stress, and schedules…

Their hearts are being softened:

• People are more reflective.
• Families are gathering.
• Churches are broadcasting the message.
• Songs with the Gospel play in stores and restaurants.
• People feel the ache of loneliness or longing which opens their hearts to hope.

Christmas creates a natural doorway to talk about Jesus because the entire culture is using His name without understanding His story.

The Opportunity: People will listen to the story of Jesus at Christmas even if they ignore it any other time of year.

How to Share the Good News Simply and Powerfully

Make the message clear. Make the moment natural. Make the love visible.

Here are four simple frameworks anyone can use:

Framework 1: The One-Sentence Gospel

When asked about Christmas, say:

“Christmas is when God sent our King — Jesus — to rescue us, forgive us, and bring us back into His Kingdom.”

Short. Clear. Invitations follow naturally.

Framework 2: The Story of the King

Share the Gospel as a story, not a sermon:

• The Promise — God promised to send a King.
• The Birth — Jesus was born as that King.
• The Mission — He came to save sinners.
• The Invitation — His Kingdom is open to everyone.

This makes conversations feel natural, warm, and meaningful.

Framework 3: Your 15-Second Testimony

Use your own experience. People can debate theology, but not your story.

• Before Jesus:

“There was a time I felt ______…”

• Jesus showed up:

“Then I realized Jesus came to bring me ______…”

• Now:

“And now I’m experiencing ______.”

Then add: “And Christmas reminds me of the moment God stepped into our world to rescue all of us.”

Framework 4: Ask Simple Questions That Open Hearts

A good question can share more gospel than a speech.

Examples:

• “What’s your favorite part of Christmas?”

(Lead into what Christmas means to you.)

• “Do you ever think about why Jesus came?”
• “Can I pray a quick Christmas blessing over you?”

People rarely reject kindness.

Practical Ways to Share Jesus at Christmas

Small steps. Big impact.

1. Use Christmas cards or gifts to deliver the message.

Add a note: “This season reminds me that the King came near. Praying He fills your home with His peace.”

2. Share a simple Scripture in conversations.

• Luke 2:11
• Isaiah 9:6
• Matthew 1:21

The Word does the heavy lifting.

3. Host a small gathering or “Christmas blessing night.”

Read the Nativity story. Share cookies. Pray for needs.

4. Use social media intentionally.

Post:

• Short reflections on Jesus
• Scriptures
• Why Christmas matters to you
• Ways God has shown His love

5. Offer to pray for people.

Prayer opens doors no argument ever could.

6. Serve someone.

• Invite someone who’s alone.
• Pay for someone’s coffee.
• Bring a meal.
• Give to someone in need.

Let them see the King through your kindness.

The Heart Behind Sharing the Kingdom

We don’t pressure people. We point people to Jesus.

Sharing the Gospel/Good News is not about:

• winning arguments
• forcing conversations
• convincing unbelievers

It is about:

• sowing seeds
• loving people
• lifting Jesus high
• letting the Holy Spirit open hearts

Our assignment is obedience. The results belong to God.

A Simple Christmas Gospel Presentation

You can use this during gatherings, social media, or personal ministry:

“This is why Christmas matters: God kept His promise. He sent Jesus — the King — to bring us back to Him. Jesus came to save, forgive, and restore every broken part of our lives. And He invites every one of us into His Kingdom today.”

End with a question: “Have you ever personally received that gift?”

A Closing Prayer for Boldness

“Father, thank You for sending Your Son, our King, to rescue the world. This Christmas, give us boldness without fear, compassion without judgment, and opportunities that point people to Jesus. Open doors for conversations, soften hearts, and let Your love shine through us. Make us faithful ambassadors of Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.”

Becoming a World Changer in a World in Need of Change

We are, as Christ followers, called to do great things.  If we don't step up and into God's calling, we are going to miss out on His blessings.  Christ raised us up and He wants us to step up to always walk with Him.

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. - Colossians 2:6

The following are my Bible study notes based on my pastor's sermon titled "World Changer."  You are invited to watch, listen, and worship with us here.

 

 

To recap our 2021 focus:

In 2021, I am going to step up by making Christ first, walking banded together, advancing as a force multiplier, and sacrificing as a world changer.

Christ First

I put Christ first by studying God's Word.

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. ² And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:1-2

Banded Together

I band with others in authentic relationships, through valleys and victories, for the joy of doing life together.

So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. - Romans 12:5

Force Multiplier

I make disciples to multiply gospel impact, launching them to disciple others.

However, since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if prophecy, in proportion to one’s faith. - Romans 12:6

A spiritual gift is whatever God wants to do in the world through His church.

World Changer

I will change the world by shining the light of Jesus to every person, culture, and cause.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. ¹³ When they had entered the city, they went up to the upstairs room where they were staying, that is, Peter, John, James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. ¹⁴ All these were continually devoting themselves with one mind to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. - Acts 1:12-14

The world has yet to see what God can do with a person who is fully consecrated to Him.  By God's help, I aim to be that one. - D.L. Moody

Our world needs change.  As Christ followers, we are called to be world changers.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. ¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. ¹⁶ Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. ¹⁷ Never repay evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all people. ¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. ¹⁹ Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. ²⁰ “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” - Romans 12:14-20

Imagine how we could change the world for the better if we all, as Christ followers, would step up and live out God's truth.  This means shining the light of Jesus to every person, culture, and cause.  We CAN change the world.  

 

God has placed you in the neighborhood where you live, in the job you are in, in the school you attend, and in the places where you go.  These are the places where you (and me) are to step up.

 

How do we bless people where we live, work, and play?  Consider the following acronym. 

 

B - Begin with prayer.

L - Love and listen.

E - Eat (Invite your neighbors and coworkers to dinner.)

S - Serve them.

S - Share the Gospel with them.

 

When we step up, God shows up!

Loving Others Well (Love Where You Live Series)

Our next installment in the Love Where You Live Series is called Loving Others Well."  This post is part of a series led by my church pastor.  Part of our 2020 focus is our B.L.E.S.S. acrostic.

B - Begin with prayer.
L - Listen to them.
E - Eat.  Have a meal with them.  Jesus was often coming from or going to a meal.
S - Serve them.
S - Share the gospel with them.

Today we are learning how to better use our influence and voice to point others to Jesus.

Influence is powerful.  We need to use it to the glory of God.

Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.  Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak.

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. - Colossians 4:1-6

Paul is telling us how to use our influence and our voice to reach others for God.  He is telling us how to love.  Some people are not easy to love.  In order to love difficult people, we need a relationship with Jesus first.  Someone once wrote:

To dwell in love with saints above
Oh that will be glory!
But to dwell below with saints we know
Ah!  That's a different story.  (Author Unknown)

Les Parrott III wrote a book titled High Maintenance Relationships.  We are going to cover a few profiles in the book.

Types of Relationships to Consider While Loving Others Well

1.  The Critic

The critic is always complaining and giving unwanted advice.  The critic nags and like to point out the mistakes of others.  

2.  The Martyr

The martyr is the forever victim.  The martyr is always filled with self-pity.  This type of person is always negative, often saying things like, "Nobody likes me." 

3.  The Wet Blanket

The wet blanket is pessimistic and automatically negative about just about everything.

4.  The Super Star

The super star must be the center of attention.  The spotlight must always be on the super star.  This person feels like he or she must outdo everyone else.

5.  The Steamroller

The steamroller feels like it is his or her calling to set you straight.  

6.  The Control Freak

The control freak is a micromanager.

7.  The Backstabber

The backstabber will agree with you in private, but then say just the opposite in the presence of others.

8.  The Green Eyed Monster

The green eyed monster is seething with envy.

9.  The Sponge

The sponge likes to receive but he or she never gives.  

Would anyone identify you as someone on this list?  The truth is that we are all difficult to love.  How do we love difficult people? 

How do we love others well?

1.  Be devoted.

Be devoted, diligent, and strong.  Whatever or Wherever you are devoted to is where your time and energy is spent.  

What are you devoted to today?

*Be devoted to prayer.  Pray with alertness.  We need to communicate with God.  Jesus prayed.  He was a prayer warrior.  Do you have a war room?


If we are going to reach people for Jesus, especially difficult people, we must begin with prayer. You don't need to wait for an ideal situation to pray.  Paul was in prison when he wrote the book of Colossians.  

Pray with thankfulness.

2.  Be wise.

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. - Colossians 4:5

By "outsiders," Paul is referring to people who do not have a relationship with Jesus.  There are people you work with or go to school with who do not have a relationship with Jesus.  We don't want to be a stumbling block for them.  We want to be wise.  Our lifestyle is a message.

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. - James 3:17

Find points of agreement with people.  Be holy and different.  To make a difference, we must be different.  Make the most of every opportunity to love others and share Jesus with them.  

Some ideas people have shared are prayer jars, blessing bags, handwritten cards and notes, Christian music CDs, etc.

When God places people in your life, you are on assignment.  Wherever you live and work, you are a missionary.

3.  Be gracious.

Let's look at Colossians 4:6 again.

Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. - Colossians 4:6

Be gracious with your words.  Are your words helpful or hurtful when you speak to others and when you post on social media? 

Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. - Ephesians 4:29

Are your words healing?  

Salt has healing properties.  Let your words be "seasoned with salt." 

Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - Proverbs 16:24

Are your words hopeful?

There are people who think they are too far gone, forever condemned.  They need you to speak words of healing and hope to them.  You have influence.  Use it wisely.  Don't make it about yourself.  Make it about Jesus.
