Bible Study Topic:  Anticipation

Scripture Passage:  Joshua 3:1-6

The following are my notes taken during my pastor's sermon.
Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and he and all the sons of Israel set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they lodged there before they crossed.  At the end of three days the officers went through the midst of the camp;  and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.  However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000 cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”

Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”  And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over ahead of the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people. - Joshua 3:1-6 (NASB)
Points to Ponder

1.  God is leading the way.  He is sovereign.

The meaning of the manna in Hebrews 9:4 = God provides!
Having a golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded, and the tables of the covenant. - Hebrews 9:4
Aaron's rod = God of Order

2.  God is taking us somewhere.
Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.
Psalm 40:5
However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000 cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before. - Joshua 3:4
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6
When you don't know what to do, do what you know.

3.  God wants us to prepare.

Sometimes, disappointment is His appointment.

4.  God shows His power to embolden our anticipation.
Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you. - Joshua 3:5
God's desire is to do amazing things in my life.
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. - Philippians 1:6
